September is National Preparedness Month, and if we look around the nation today, it behooves us to have a basic level of preparedness. If you want to personally be prepared, check out our Emergency Management web page for links to resources for how to build an emergency communications plan, a fire escape plan, a 72 hour kit, a pet kit, etc. Find out how you can participate in Community Emergency Response Teams, grants for property fire mitigation and wood chipping, shelter locations and opportunities to become a volunteer during a local disaster or emergency, Weather spotters, and Neighborhood Watch programs. If you are interested, Delta County has several different groups that work on communications, long-term power outages, basic preparedness skills, EMS, medical, and emergency response groups that you can get involved with. For more information see our Emergency Management web page.
