Our Mission
The mission of the Delta County Detention Facility is to
provide safe, secure, constitutional and humane care for pretrial and
sentenced inmates in custody of the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, and to
provide a safe, secure and professional environment for the staff and public.
Detention Facility Staff
1 Detention Administrator
2 Jail Sergeants
15 full time Detention Officers (including 5 who are
Colorado Certified Peace Officers)
1 Transport Deputy
4 Work Release Deputies
2 Courthouse Security Deputies
In 2004, the Delta County Sheriff’s Office opened the
doors to a new off-site work release building. The building houses inmates
sentenced for non-violent crimes who maintain employment during their sentence.
Each inmate is required to pay $17.50 a day. In 2006, the average daily count
in work release was 16, some days as many as 20. This generated $83,142.50 in
work release fees.
Sheriff McKee continues to be aggressive and implement new
ideas in an effort to maintain the most cost effective way of housing
inmates. In 2007, the equipment and the training needed to implement a home
detention program began. If sentenced for a non-violent crime and qualify for
this program, an inmate may be fitted with a monitor and released to their
home. This would drastically cut inmate cost to taxpayers.
TAC Program
Delta County Sheriff’s Office is a member of Transports
Across Colorado (TAC). TAC enables us to have prisoners transported to and
from our facility to any other facility at a lower cost than if we had to do
all our own transports. It is a very useful program and utilizes teamwork
between Colorado sheriff’s offices. We are also involved with a program
between sheriffs for transporting inmates throughout the northwest part of
the U.S., saving several thousand dollars in 2006.
The mission of TAC is to cooperatively move prisoners
between facilities in the safest, efficient and most cost effective manner.
Jail Information
All inmates are issued an inmate handbook (English and
Spanish) upon entering the facility that details inmate’s rights and
