Solid Waste Management

Delta County owns and operates a Municipal Solid Waste facility for the residents of Delta County. The Abode Buttes Landfill west of Eckert was constructed and opened by the County in 1996. The County also operates a trash transfer station east of Hotchkiss which has some restrictions on the type and amount of trash accepted for transfer.

Accepted Wastes

All acceptable municipal solid wastes and load sizes can be deposited at the Adobe Buttes Landfill. There are restrictions to load size and material accepted at the North Fork Transfer Station. Call the Adobe Buttes Landfill gatehouse for details on restrictions.

Conditions for Waste to be Accepted

All loads to either location must be secured or double the normal dumping fees shall be charged.  The gatekeepers may inspect your loads for restricted materials.  The gatekeepers can deny the dumping of any load found to carry unacceptable materials or for other reasons determined at the gate.

Temporary Closures

High winds and/or severe weather conditions may require temporary and unexpected closures of both the Adobe Buttes Landfill and the North Fork Transfer Station.
