The Center for Disease Control describes a parasite as “an organism that lives on or in a host organism and gets its food from or at the expense of its host.” In other parts of the world, parasites can cause or transmit very serious disease. While the most common parasites in Delta County can cause discomfort and annoyance, they generally do not transmit serious disease. Two human parasites found in Delta County are bed bugs and head lice. As ectoparasites, they live outside of the human body.
